  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 51/2 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and ginger in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Add the activated yeast mixture and stir.
  3. Gradually add flour one cup at a time until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (60-90 minutes).
  6. Punch down the dough, divide into two portions, shape into loaves, and place in greased pans. Let rise again for about an hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush loaves with melted butter and bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool on wire racks before slicing.
