Ingredients

Scale
  • 250g lukewarm whole milk
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dried yeast
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 565g all-purpose flour
  • 850g diced apples
  • 30g unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 190g unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 225g cream cheese
  • Pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine lukewarm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast; let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Whisk together eggs and salt in a large bowl; add the yeast mixture along with flour and softened butter. Mix until combined into a sticky dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl to rise for about 1 hour.
  4. For the filling: Melt butter in a pan over medium heat; add diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and cornstarch. Cook until apples soften slightly.
  5. Roll out risen dough into a rectangle; spread apple filling evenly and sprinkle pecans if desired. Roll tightly into a log shape and slice into even pieces.
  6. Place rolls on a lined baking sheet; let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. For frosting: Beat together softened butter and cream cheese until fluffy; gradually mix in powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream until smooth.
  8. Frost cooled rolls generously before serving.
