Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk preferably whole
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
For Serving
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for frosting
  • 2 tbsp milk for frosting

Method
 

Prepare the Oven and Pan
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
Mix Dry Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and salt until well combined.
Mix Wet Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, cream the softened butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
Combine Mixtures
  1. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Bake the Cake
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool and Frost
  1. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. For frosting, mix powdered sugar with milk until smooth and drizzle over the cooled cake.

Notes
