Method
Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Cut in Butter
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Combine Wet Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, brewed coffee, and egg until well combined.
Form the Dough
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
Shape the Scones
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times. Pat into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges and place on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool and Serve
- Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving warm.
