Ingredients
  

Beef Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 for best flavor
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup beef broth low sodium
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce optional
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1 tsp black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup frozen peas optional
Dumplings
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp butter melted

Method
 

Prepare the Beef Filling
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned.
  3. Stir in beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Add frozen peas if using, and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
Make the Dumplings
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined. Do not overmix.
Cook the Dish
  1. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter over the simmering beef mixture.
  2. Cover the skillet with a lid and let cook for 15-20 minutes, until dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.
  3. Serve hot and enjoy your hearty meal!
