Method
Prepare the Meat Sauce
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Make the Cheese Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and egg. Mix well.
Assemble the Lasagna
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the cheese mixture and a third of the meat sauce.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles and remaining meat sauce on top.
- Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
Serve
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
