Ingredients

Brownie Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
Cream Cheese Swirl
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Prepare the Oven and Pan
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Make the Brownie Batter
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until combined.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Stir in the red food coloring until the batter is evenly colored.
Prepare the Cream Cheese Swirl
  1. In a separate bowl, beat together the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Combine and Bake
  1. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan. Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture over the batter, then add the remaining brownie batter on top.
  2. Use a knife or spatula to swirl the cream cheese mixture into the brownie batter.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool and Serve
  1. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Cut into squares and serve.
